Brasilia [Brazil], September 18: A small plane in Brazil plummeted to the ground on Saturday, killing all passengers on board, including 12 tourists in addition to the pilot and copilot, according to local reports.
According to local Brazilian outlet, Metropoles, which cited the local mayor, the Bandeirante model aircraft crashed in the Brazilian northern state of Amazonas in the Barcelos region on Saturday.
The crash took place as the plane was trying to land in the city, which is located about 400 km from the state capital, Manaus, from where it had taken off, CNN Brasil reported.
The aeroplane possibly crashed due to bad weather, the report stated, adding that it was raining heavily at the time of landing. The Embraer PT-SOG aircraft took off from Manaus, the Amazonas state capital and the biggest city in the Amazon, and was attempting to land in heavy rain when it crashed, local media reported.
The passengers were Brazilian tourists on their way to fish, the reports said. A spokesperson for Barcelos city hall told Metropoles that there were 12 passengers on board, along with the pilot and copilot, at the time of the horrific crash in the country's Amazon state.
Local authorities and the Brazilian Air Force are investigating the crash. The Center for Research and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (Cenipa) confirmed in a statement that investigators from the Seventh Regional Service for Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (Seripa VII) were asked to report to the site of the plane crash.
Seripa VII is a regional body of Cenipa.
According to the Cenipa, initially, special techniques are used to collect and confirm data, preserve evidence, verify damage caused to the aircraft, or by the aircraft and gather other important information for the investigation process, CNN Brasil reported.
The conclusion of the investigation will take the minimal time possible and will always depend on the complexity of each occurrence, the report stated, adding that the probe also needs to pinpoint possible contributing factors to the incident.
