Trump asks governors to reopen places of worship
May 23, 2020
Washington DC (USA), May 23: US President Donald Trump wants state governors to reopen churches and other places of worship after they were closed due to the outbreak of the new coronavirus.
He told reporters at the White House on Friday that "Some governors have deemed liquor stores and abortion clinics as essential, but not churches. It's not right."
Trump warned he could override governors who do not comply, without clarifying what specific powers would allow him to do so.
Evangelical Christians are a key support base for Trump, who is seeking reelection.
